For the record: Harold is cooler than Max

That is: Harold of Harold and the Purple Crayon and Max of Where the Wild Things Are

  • Not a brat
  • Artist
  • Creative (I guess so was Max, but mostly only the movie version)

Today: Talking about everything ever, except for love and sex.

Long story short, we (Brian, Ben, Dennis, Kimi and I) were supposed to go out tonight but then we stayed in and exhausted the subjects of:

How often dark beers taste a little like soy sauce, and it makes sense
How Corey and Ben Johnson like to present their knowledge of things and people
How 'the guys' we hung out with in Hilo were pretty awesome
How surprising it is when people mature
How bullshit a community service club in high school often was
How to utilize soup kitchens
How at every section of your life things seem so important but in retrospect, it really wasn't
Philosophy
Philosophy concerning abortion
Abortion
Politics
How Brian votes
How the rest of us vote
Healthcare
Ben's dad's financial situations as a doctor
The housing market
The current economy
Economy cycles
How some friend's of ours make a lot of money
How we would spend our money if we made more
How much time is worth and when do you start paying people for ridiculous things
Our current spending habits
How I would buy art if I had more money
Art trends and styles
Art and luck
Art that is probably maybe just fucking with us
How people act at a certain age
How 24 is 'old' versus 21

I am open to expand on most of the subjects per your request.

Thanksgiving 09

I've been dreamin'
Of the things I learned
About a boy who's bleedin'
Celebrate to elevate
The joy is not the same without the pain

Ipso Facto
Using up your oxygen
You know I'm shallow
Calling out for extra help
You've got to let me in or help me out

Something to talk about
Yeah, something to talk about

I've been dreamin'
Of the things I learned
About a boy who's leavin'
Nothing else to chance again
You've got to let me in or let me out

Something to talk about
Yeah, something to talk about

When there's nothing left to blog you have to set yourself on fire

Nothing to report. Check out these friends instead (but then come back later):

Ish knows what she is doing and does it well. And she's awesome. And I miss her. These are the things she is photographing wherever in the world she is, which at the time of posting is maybe Ecuador.

The stuff you wouldn't want to hear from me if I wanted to tell you. But in a much much more well written and personable yet relatable way. I'm liking the tumblr as well.

Cheap wall art

Coins: $1, dollar store somewhere. Arranged by Sarah. I think

Plastic skull: $?, Archie McPhee

And while we're looking at this photo... it's definitely time to get lenses for these bad boys. I think they look good AND I'd like to see at my highest potential again soon.

Today: I got stuck in an elevator

The Levi's Store elevator.

Usually I take the stairs because I am able to. But this morning we were cleaning and I thought taking a mop and bucket full of mop water downstairs would be quicker and cleaner. I got in and before the doors closed the elevator jiggled a little bit. Whatever. Then the doors closed and the elevator didn't move for five minutes.

At first I tried pushing buttons. All the buttons except for the emergency call button. I wasn't at that point yet. Nothing worked so I pounded on the door hoping Chris or Dylan would hear me from the sales floor. Nothing. So then I thought I'd wait it out a while, buddhist style. I even mopped up the elevator because I doubt anyone has ever (maybe). I thought about how I saw this video on youtube where the guy was stuck in an elevator for 41 hours. Here it is:

Alas, after 5 minutes it started to move and let me out downstairs.

Judy's response to the situation: "Ooooh, maybe it'll happen to me!" That's how much we don't like working on the women's floor?

So long Seattle!!!

Just kidding. But what if? I mean, it won't be happening anytime soon. But here's the thing, something's telling me I want to leave, just a little bit. Just little bit! It could grow into a lotta bit though and I should be somewhat prepared to deal with that when/if it happens.

The things I want in a city:
English speaking.
The bigger the better.
Bike friendly.
Decent public transportation.

This is probably just a funk I'm in... it's a little bit of boredom, lack of direction/inspiration and too much monotony. Yes, especially the monotony part. Being so overworked with school and jobs and not enough time for

***THIS JUST HAPPENED:

I delivered cookies with my roommates (including Archie) to a couple of our neighbors, Maria and then Daryl. It was awkward awkward wonderfulness. Maria was pretty receptive and nice. She wears glasses. I'm expecting her to return the plate with goodies for us.

Daryl took a while to answer the door. He was a scruffy older guy. I think he had a pen in his shirt pocket. He was a little confused. Sarah cut the awkward silence by introducing herself. He asked if we wanted the plate back. We did. I don't think it'll come with any thing on it. We'll see though. He had a lot of things in his apartment.

The cookies were Molasses Crinkles and Chocolate chip. Six each. The logic: if there are two people in the apartment, they can have three each. If there are three, two each. Sarah baked them and is baking more. I am full.

Ok. Maybe I need to stay in Seattle.

Girl.

And this:

Then, there's this:

I say, God damn.

City Flags

I just got sidetracked on wikipedia and found my way to City flags. And what a great, albeit, not so comprehensive collection of city flags from around the world.

Here are the highlights:

Donetsk, Ukraine. Nothing like a sun seizure over a black sea. What are we saying here Donetsk?
Fellow Ukraine city Makiivaka liked enough to stick the whole thing in the corner of their own flag. How original.

Bilboa, this is just lazy.

This is the flag of Boras, Sweden. Those are sheep shearing scissors.

Amsterdam. Not surprised. Silly.

The Canadian City of Laval. Is this a joke?

I think Benbrook, Texas was going for a polo shirt logo feel. And they succeeded.
And well, Baton Rouge went for the gift shop sweater design.

The best for last. Provo, Utah. Wow.

Today

Today was an interesting Sunday. To say the least.

11:00 am: Woke up to call work. I was on call. They didn't need me.
11:01 am: Back to bed.
12:00 pm: woke up and watched an episode of The Office
12:45 pm: Back to bed.
6:30 pm: Woke up... totaling about 15 hours of sleep since last night.
7:00 pm: Decided to go to Walmart with Sarah and Michael for a quick retreat.
7:10 pm: U-turned to Snoqualmie Casino instead on a group impulse decision
11:00 pm: Decided it was finally time to call it quits. Ended the night at +$2.33.
11:38 pm: Wondering when I can go back to the casino to play the Glitter Kittens slot machine. Sigh.

Whitney, Jake, Kat, Adam and Braden. And all you other ones as well... but specifically those for their Campus MovieFest win at Seattle U. Here is their short film, Jim's Bike.

11.04.2009

The biggest choice I make everyday:

To walk or to bike? My thought process:

1. Is it raining?
Yes: Walk. It is not fun to bike in the rain. You get twice as soaked, well... just your front half. Also, it's much more dangerous.
No: Proceed to next question.

How am I feeling today?

Biking is good for fast trips and fun, and a nice little workout. If I am concerned about the time, I'll choose bike, sometimes even when it's raining. For example: biking to work downtown takes roughly five minutes while walking takes about 15 - 20 minutes.
However, biking takes all your attention if you want to avoid becoming roadkill. And sometimes, I don't want to think which leads to...

Walking. What it's really got going for it: I can walk and listen to music. And I really like doing that. Walking also allows me to think and it's better if I do more of that... unless I don't want to think, in which case I just put Yeah Yeah Yeah's on and have a nice rocking-on-the-inside stroll. But then, I'm sort of impatient.

Other factors: Am I traveling with someone? Do they have a bike? Do I plan on going grocery shopping or picking other things up on my travels? Are my brakes working well? (currently, no. But not bad enough...)

I've been doing more walking recently.
